Thursday, January 30, 2014 - 1:00pm

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's State Training and Technical Assistance Center (STTAC) will host an interactive Webinar entitled Examining Disproportionate Minority Contact for Asian/Pacific Islander Youth: Strategies to Effectively Address DMC. This webinar will provide national data Asian and Pacific Islander (API) youth in the juvenile justice system. To illustrate how national data do not fully capture the extent of DMC for API youth, data from California and Hawaii will show that the rates of contact for API youth are often similar to other minority youth. Presenters will engage participants in a discussion about the unique characteristics of API youth and the stereotypes that lead to disproportionate minority contact for this diverse population. Finally, strategies for effectively working with API youth will be discussed.
